The Best Senser post, ever

Something of an English answer to Rage Against the Machine, Senser put out one phenominal album ("Stacked Up"), and a few more that are a bit short of that level. Mixing hip hop beats and vocals, metal guitars, and leftist politics, the sound on "Stacked Up" for my money made it one of the most unique, and best, albums of 1995. Especially noteworthy are the icy vocals of  Kerstin Haigh, listen to her repeated chant "Make a SWITCH!" (in "Switch"), or especially her rant in "State of Mind" ("Shut your mouth and get back in line and if you don't like it well it suits us just fine!").....she ahd the ability to sound fearsome in sort of an Annie Lennox-"1984" manner.....went well witht he make vocals, multi instruments, and lyrics taking on the ususal subject matter of the time/place......

Anyway, I consider "Stacked Up" to be something of a near-classsic.....the second album, "Asylum" treads a lot of the same turf but as so often happens, "It" was gone after one album. Also issued around the time was "Asylum De" or "Senser vs De Senser", kind of a complicated issue in which Haigh had left the band due to pregnancy and they trudged on as "De Senser", until her return......anyway, it's all worth a listen, though simply not of the quality of "Stacked Up".

"Parallel Charge" was issued in 2001, kind of an overly ambitious compilation for a band with 2.5 albums to it's credit.....anyway, for some reason I have it, so if you prefer this programming sequence, have at it. "Schematic" and "How to Do Battle" were the next two legitimate new releases, in 2004 and 2009, and all indications seem to be that they carry on even now. Nothing wrong with these albums, just not as good as "Stacked Up", and as we've seen with Gang of Four, RATM, TRB, Crass, and lots of other "angry" bands, once the anger dies down a bit so does the intensity of the music.

None the less, they gave us "Stacked Up", which, again, I think is a fine album that anyone should have and hear.....loaded with great stuff...."Age of Panic", "State of Mind", "Switch"......and if it tickles yer fancy, check out the rest of their works. None of it's "bad", really, like so many befoe them, they simply never achieved the level of their debut.

Now, I have a request....I once heard the song "Age of Panic" done in a fabulous version known as the "Git-O-Rama ReMix"......I cannot find that thing ANYWHERE. Does anyone out there in Senser-land happen to have a copy or a link I can use? It was by far what I thought the top version of "Age of Panic", but I simply can't find a copy of it, internet or elsewhere.....I think that it actually came on a "Huh?" Magazine compliation disc, which must have been misplaced/given away/stolen/something.....anyway I'd love to hear it again, and if you can help me out here I'd truly appreciate it!........I'm still uploading White Stripes links, so when I get done with them I'll get started on these......tonight, maybe tomorrow!

And Now For Something Completely Different

Hopefully some of you will love this post, some might think I'm losing my finer marbles.....no music today, but what I have for you are three beautiful collections of concert poster art.....I LOVE these, I'd credit the blogs I took thm from but I honestly don't remember......

Group #1 is a bunch of flyers from various punk shows. The second bunch is a lot of "classic" rock, psychedelia, pretty mutch a catchall.....the posters for the psych bands of the 1960's were beautiful, in my opinion......and group #3, modern day stoner bands, tend to top even those old psych posters in colorful splendor......

Not a lot I have to say about this, I think it's some really cool stuff that I am happy to share. If it's not your thing, well, I'll be back soon with something else......for my money though, this is something that you REALLY don't see everyday, so enjoy them. There are samples from all three groups shown around the post, but there are litterally THOUSANDS of different bands represented. I hope your faves are here.....sorry if not

Links will be in the comments section as per ususal.....let me know what you think of these, I have a lot more of this kind of thing if there is any interest, Creem and Rolling Stone covers, many many concert photos, just tons of stuff......but I only want to put up the stuff you guys want/enjoy.

I'm excited about this post, I hope it gets big DL numbers.....It really IS worth it, just to keep on your computer and browse through and marvel at the beauty of some of this art.....lots of memories here. I really, really like the stuff in these files, and all I can say is I hope you do as well!

Remember, the first link is the "Punk" fliers.....2nd link is more of the catch-all, psychedelic and classic stuff.....and third is more modern day stoner stuff......I hope you like all three!

Monks RARITIES?

Seems like a relative term, but I was just poking around on Pirates Bay last night (just days after posting "Black Monk Time") and tripped over this.....a Monks early works/rarities disc? Never knew it existed....shares some overlap with "Black monk Time", but I think it no question will have an interesting nugget or two. According to the notes, this includes "pre-Monks" work as the Torquays, as well as some post-"Black Monk Time" singles....I have not had a chance to even listen to this yet, hopefully I will get to it tonight or tomorrow, I just had to put it up as a companion piece to the surprisingly-well recieved "Black Monk Time".......

Please leave a comment, especially in light of the fact that I haven't even listened to it yet!

01 Monk Time/02 Love Came Tumblin Down/03 Boys Are Boys/04 Space Age/05 We Do Wie Du/06 I Hate You/07 Pretty Suzanne/08 Higgle-Dy Piggle-Dy/09 Hushie Pushie/10 Oh, How To Do Now/11 Boys Are Boys/12 There She Walks

Tracks 1-10: Demos, recorded as The Monks, Sept. 1965.
Tracks 11-12: Single, recorded as The 5 Torquays, circa 1964.

(According to notes found on Pirate Bay.......enjoy!)

Some Random 13th Floor Elevators Rarities

Don't know how many Elevators fans we have here, I've long been one....."Psychedelic Sounds" (with it's classic liner notes about "recently it has become possible for man to chemically alter his mental state".....something like that), and the underrated "Easter Everywhere" are classics of the TRUE acid genre, according to all sources these guys were ate up on the daily LSD that Roky Erikson and Tom Hall were more or less forcing on them.......

Rarities.....what, everything but those 2 classic albums maybe? I'd have to say so. I looked through my stack of stuff and there is going to be a BUNCH of overlap here, unfortunately, but a completist/collector may just cream himself.

Lets start with a few very poor concert recordings, both from ca. 1965 - 67.....I'm sure being there was quite a experience, trying to listen to these is something less than that, but they do contain amny of the Elevators classics, and a few live surprises such as "You Really Got Me" and "Roll Over Beethoven"....you're welcome if these fill a slot in your collection, if you plan on these becoming a frequently played favorite, probably not (and NEITHER contains a live version of my all-time fave "Slip Inside This House", for shame!)

Next set I see here is "All Singles and Rare Stuff"......going over the track list I see a few things not normally heard from the boys, notably a "single edit" of "Slip Inside This House" which I have never listened to and assume is not what I'm looking for. Anyway, rarities, rarites.....something here to please someone. Just don't quote a shorter version of "Slip Inside this House" to me, I don't think I could stand it.

The next three series could possibly fit the bill as "overkill", I didn't really realize I had all this stuff, but here they are in all their glory.....remember you were WARNED about overlap......

First we have "Psychedelic Sounds/Easter Everywhere Alternate Mixes"......grrrr, still no "Slip Inside This House", but alternate mixes and single mixes of a good portion of the stuff from those two albums. Again, if you are a HUGE fan of Roky and the boys, this may seem like a Godsend.....if not, it may seem like so much filler.......Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors for a reason, I guess...

Next comes the THREE (!) disc "Unreleased  Masters Collection" Disc 1 contains alternate versions of a lot of their more notable works, although listening to them may confuse you...the differences sometimes are minimal from the origianl....they're all here, though, "Fire Engine", "Roller Coaster", "Dust".......nothing wrong with listening and trying to discerne the difference here between the original and the alternate version.Disc 2 is more esoteric, versions of "Hattie Carroll", "Catch the Wind", "Baby Let Me Follow You Down"......quite interesting stuff. Also includes "For Brian Jones (Hide Behind the Sun)".....good stuff here. Disc 3 of "Unreleased Masters" goes back to well known Elevators material, I don't know if these are studio alternates or what, I'm working for the "completitst" on this one.....

The definition of overkill, perhaps, when it comes to the 13th Floor Elevators, might be a SECOND three disc set, "Paradise Lost"......Same as before.....alternates and etc, some are probably indentical to those on "Unreleased Masters", some are probably different, it would take note-taking to figure it out, and that ain't me.....I do notice a version of "Gloria" on Disc 1. Disc 2 contains a bunch of live material, some from a TV show and some from a club in New Orleans, sound qulaity is what it is.

The third disc is "Paradise Found", which claims to be "Studio Sessions 1966-68" and I guess they are, they sure sound EXACTLY like those that ended up on "Psychedelic Sounds" and "Easter Everywhere".....at least I do gt to include a satisfactory version of "Slip Inside This House" in the whole mess, to me sounds like the "official" version, what do I know?

Be a few hours and maybe tomorrow AM until all these are upped. I predict that some will love this post, and some will hate it. I have a bunch of Roky (post-elevators) stuff, I was going to maybe blend it in with this, but there is just too much material.....so sometime, Roky gets his own "random Rarities" post, which would, I think, include most of his post-13th efforts.

Enjoy.....these are a few relics of a bygone era.....it's not coming back, so get a taste of it here.....I hink "Slip Inside This House" is THE definitive acid/psych song ever written (by anyone), and a lot of this stuff was WAY ahead of it's time.

Links in the comment section, leave a comment if you wish......any interest in a Roky Rarities post?

Thanks for your patience....REUP day!

After the Mediafire purge of last month, I promised I'd reup links that were requested....thus far I haven't done ANY of them, I'd like to see if I can get to them today...I made some notes on which are lying around here and there, if I forget any of you I am sorry, just ask again and I'll take care of you. I know a couple people reqeusted the Soft Boys "The Day They Ate Brick", which I was going to do last week along with the rest of these, when I discovered I could not find the Soft Boys disc.....I misplace stuff all the time, so I knew it would turn up. It did, and the link is in the comments section.

One guy requested the Sleater Kinney BBC Sessions, it's here. The "Howlin Wolf Psychedelic Album".......here. I remember one guy asked for the Helles Belles album, it's here (both discs), don't recall he MIGHT have been wanting the Iron Maidens and Lez Zeppelin as well, I don't  recall for sure, so for right now I'll just do the Helles Belles (I remember him claiming to be  a big AC DC fan).

Just a couple days ago someone left a note that "the Nirvana link is dead"......well, yes, it is, along with all the OTHER pre-purge links....not sure if he was requesting a reup on that Nirvana boot or not, but I'll be a good guy and do it as well.

One guy requested the eight disc set of Rock N Roll advertisements.....A bit of work, but I'm going to do it. As much as I love that set, and he seemed to be pretty excited about it, too, just discovered the blog late (post-purge)....happily, I repost to keep those great discs alive.

One guy kind of qnated me to do the whole Bowie rarities, I am  NOT going to do that right now....I had planned a Bowie rarities part 2 at some point, I don't know.....maybe I'll do that as a 2-day thig, repost the original and then post part 2, a little too much work for right now.

I think this is all, it's all I remember. If I forgot you please remind me and I'll comply unless it's soemthing strenuous like the whole Bowie post or something.......but a single album or two, more than happy......

And more than happy to do requests any time. My collection is huge, you guys get the idea of the kind of stuff I'm into, and I'm happy to share.....I was going to quit this thing totally at purge time, but I like doing it, I like the kind remarks and I like helpin people find an album or two they've been looking for.....also, I like that through his blog I've found a couple new items from some of you wonderful folks, the Peeping Tom EP was the bomb, never dreamed I'd see that, and all those Fabulous Poodles discs that one guy sent me......great stuff.

So onward to the future....I can't post every day like I did in May, but if a couple times a week is ok with you, I can do that......for now this REUP thing will catch things up a bit, my son has a baeball tournenement this weekend, so probably early next week.....something.....don't know what. I found some cool boots from A Place to Bury Strangers, who also have a brand new album out, maybe something like that.......I'm still toying with the idea of creating some controversy with a Skrewdriver post, maybe on back to back days with a Tom Robinson Band post, we'll see where it takes me.

Until then, enjoy the reups, be good to each other.....life is short, enjoy it to the extreme. For those of you who had foresight enough to dowload them the firt time, well, enjoy the pictures of some more of my favorite members of the finer gender....I'll give Drew Barrymore the day off and feature a few of the second teamers

I'll be uploading these for a while this evening, the links SHOULD be up sometime tonight....again thanks for reading, thanks for listening, and thanks for your patience!
