Once again I thank John for this huge contribution, this is why we even exist to share stuff like this........a HUGE serving of Brian Jonestown Massacre stuff, and I am MORE THAN HAPPY to send it along to ALL minions........

First up, a 2010 disc entitled "Who Killed Sgt. Before we get to Lemonheads 2, I want to post something else first.......couple things, YES they are FLAC
files..... if they were FLAC files when I downloaded them, they were burned to disc as FLAC files, etc.....in this case I took the easy way out and let Zippyshare split the files (they have a 200mb/upload limit), which is why they end with stuff like Z1......OK, NOT the best way to do them.....I'll go back and split them by hand (trust me they are MUCH more manageable when I do that).......I will do it the HARD WAY in the name of quality from here out (ie, use the actual CD's which are split at the proper place rather than make extra work for the downloader.....)

Out of nowhere comes John N with an amazing looking submission, since he sent his submissions in another format (I won''t name it), they have a limit on the amount I can download, unless I pay for upgraded service and do you think I'd do that? I couldn't even keep a straight face TYPING that!.....anyway, I'm going to break his WONDERFUL submission up in as many pieces as I need, he has sent FIFTEEN links for Brian Jonestown Massacre stuff that we didn't have access to before (as well, as, much appreciated, a stray Magnapop link)........I am going to download his links and re-zippy them, so it'll take a second, but here is PART 1 of the new John post, hopefully I can get some more of these pulled down tonight (hope they don't expire soon), but this is a TREMENDOUS contribution that I know will be popular with some of you!

First up we have a 1999 EP entitled "Bringing It All Back Home Again".......pretty damn good, actually, and I just learned that one track "Arkansas Revisited" is a reworking of the Charles Manson non-classic "Arkasas".......another interesting thing thier Wiki page reveals is this was the final release to feature bassist Matt Hollywood (he returned in 2012), who left the band in an onstage fight, documented in the great film "Dig".

Brian Jonestown Massacre Part 2

Picking up where we left off the other day, these guys released "Give It Back!" in 1997......it's a fairly respectable effort, not thier greatest, but it does include "Not If You Were the Last Dandy On Earth", a response to the Dandy Warhols' "Not If You Were the Last Junkie On Earth", which originally was a slap at THIS band (think Pavement's "Range Life" and you'll have the general idea).I've always for some reason enjoyed bands attempting to insult each other on record, I don't know why......I ought to make a comp of attempted musical "insults" and responses......always gave props to Neil Young for saying he'd rather listen to "Sweet Home Alabama" than "Southern Man" any time, shows what a cool guy he is, but of course I digress......

The following year the released "Strung Out In Heaven", not a real favorite of mine either, at least lacking the life of some of the earlier discs......highlights are "Wasting Away" and the single "Love".....not bad but not essential.

Something of a comeback, IMO, is 2001's "Bravery, Repitition, and Noise", which is an under-appreciated effort I think, good tracks such as "Open Heart Surgery" and "If I Love You?" remind us that this really IS one of the era's better "Modern Psych" bands.

"And This Is Our Music" was released in 2003, I have debated this albuma  bit, I know some hate it's psuedo folk/psych, I don't know, I kind of like it......come on, "Prozac vs. Heroin"? "You Look Great When I'm Fucked Up"?  I like the album, maybe you don't, but I think it's one of their better efforts. As I said, many do not agree.

And speaking of which, along comes "My Bloody Underground" (2008), which I happen to think is great... highly experimental, the sound owes a lot to My Bloody Valentine and The Velvet Underground (duh) as well as The Jesus and Mary Chain, and I find it's noisy psych rock wonderfully innovative and refreshing........if you've not heard it, please experience "We Are the Niggers of the World", "Black Hole Symphony" and LOTS more, uncharacteristic of myself to pick a effort so late in the career of a band as my fave, but this may just be an exception......AND< I'm sure some people hate this one too.

They have released a handful of EP's, only one of which I happen to have (sorry, can anyone help with the others? I am also lacking the post-"Bloody" issues), 2009's "Smoking Acid".....it's here as well.......I hope this paints a DECENT picture of a band I like but don't love, I would bet they are the type of band that has some really cool rarities in the closet, so if anyone has anything to fill in the gaps here, NOW is the time to share!

The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Part 1

This will take a couple of days as these guys have an extensive catalogue.....likely not for everyone, but what the fuck is? Great win today by the Vikings, Royals can wrap up the World Series tonight, Buckeyes on a bye week, so why not a semi-mega post, this is whom came blazing into my mushy brain.......

These boys from San Francisco began in the late 80's as a kind of shoegaze (think maybe My Bloody Valentine) band, over the years they developed a more conventional psychedelic rock sound, I have enjoyed SOME of thier stuff, some not so much, and perhaps that will be your feeling as well......anyway, if this is new to you, congrats, please comment if you would.

The first album we have here is "Spacegirl and Other Favorites".....it's pretty rare I think and contains the trippy single "Hide and Seek".....more "interesting" than good, I think.......the follow up, 1994's "Methodrone" is the first "real"highlight, an homage to the previously mentioned My Bloody Valentine and maybe Spaceman 3, it features the singles "She Made Me" and "Evergreen", and is actually quite an underappreciated album. Recommended.

They cranked out THREE (!) albums in 1996, and we'll check those out today, and maybe the rest later this week.... "Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request" is a total homage to trippy mid-60's psych rock, and would epitomize the sound they would eventually call their own....sitars, mellotrons, all that great shit, if you like that kind of stuff (the original stuff i mean), this is a good album, they do the music justice and add just a bit of a 1990's touch to it.

The second album of 1996, "Take It From the Man!", is TOTALLY different, it's bluesy-Rolling Stones style rock, while I don't feel it is characteristic of thte band's careet, I do kind of enjoy it......."Vacuum Boots", "Who", and "Oh Lord" stand out.......you may or may not like this one, I kind of do.

Finally the THIRD album from 1996 was "Thank God For Mental Illness", an experimental effort split into two segments, the first featuring some country-ish acoustic numbers (I'm not crazy about it), and the second is a long single track, "Sound of Confusion" which combines "songs" and blurry sound collages, I like it, but I can see someone hating it as well.
