(Scott) certainly I love my guest contributors, where would I be without them?.....John N, link-dictator -of-this-part-of-the-universe, sends this one........listened and it's a good one......it's also a 2016 release, so, you know that can go two ways......some bans LOVE the exposures, and of course, some want FEWER listeners to their stuff, not more....I'm happy to oblige either, if this band wishes removal, simply ask.

Anyway, a fine effort......"Glow In the Dark" is a fine album that wears it's influences quite proudly, (punk, glam, psych, disco).......I like this one a good bit, end of year lists? we'll see, but for now, this is a good one......you might want to hurry, cause, you know........

Might as well do another post this evening as I watch my 30-year marriage crumble before my eyes......I

have to do SOMETHING and right now, I can't think of anything more constructive to do.......I sure hope I can save this thing, but I really doubt it, and you know what? I'm not all THAT upset about it.....I love this woman with all my heart, as longtime readers will know, but after threatening me with probably 20 divorces in 30 years, I really don't feel like being bullied anymore......there are as many loose women in Ohio as anywhere else, I am assuming, so, if my desire to mend this thing (AGAIN) doesn't work, I'll be putting out the call for 40+ year old Buckeye sluts!

Here are a pair of good albums from the San Francisco band The Demonics.....they I don't have, nor have I ever heard (I don't think) their 1998 debut "Formaldehyde Injection", but I do have the next two releases, 2000's "Demons on Wheels" and 2002's "Ritual on the Beach".

This was a good band...they combined 60's-era surf with 70's punk and glam to create a fairly unique sound that seemingly, to me, was fairly underappreciated......basically vocalist/guitarist Russ Wright and drummer Amy Cesari, I'd hope you'll check these out as they REALLY are quite good.

"Demons On Wheels" is a good listen all the way through, "She Devils On Wheels" and "Fuel Injected Suicide Machine" standout, but "Ritual on the Beach" is the REAL standout, a really underrated album with standouts like "Bikini Bitch" and "Evil Angel" among the standout, but towering above all is the stellar "California Nightmare", a great song which alone would be worth the price of admission.

Don't really know whatever happened to this band, but these are a pair of good albums they left in their wake.

Mud

This is a very comprehensive (perhaps excessively so) collection of singles from the underappreciated/ somewhat overlooked glitter/glam band MUD... from the fertile UK glam scene of the early mid 1970's, MUD were a sort of T Rex/Sweet type of outfit, that specialized in the type of short, poppish/guitar slammers that made the glam scene what it was..... rarely discussed stateside, even I forgot about them when unleashing that glam flood back around the time of Bowie's passing... however, this is quite worthwhile if you are uninitiated.

MUD were basically singer Les Gray, drummer Dave Mount, bassist Ray Stiles, and guitarist Rob Davis......the cranked out some singles that did quite well in the UK, notably "Dyna-Mite", "Tiger Feet", and "The Cat Crept In".......there are a LOT more like these, as these guys were pretty strictly a singles act, one COULD make the case that a two disc comp is a bit much, but, as stated before, at the very least it IS comprehensive......the band had a knack for doing some fairly lame cover versions at times, the versions here of  "Drift Away" and "Lean On Me" are pretty lame, although they could, with the right material, knock one out ("Oh Boy!", notably)....these guys plugged on until 1978, or so, by which time glam rock was dinosauric, but they were harmless fun, and if you listen to this and pare it down to a single disc of the tracks you like, you'll have a 1970's UK glam rock gem!

RIP David Bowie

No doing too well with the passing of L'Bowie, one of my faves, (also one of my wife's favorites, and
one could even say one of my Dad's, as well, as he took me to see L'Bowie on my 12th birthday)....saw him a few times over the years, the last about 20 year back when he teamed with Trent Reznor for that fine series of concerts (I'll post one when I get to the "real" tribute).

Coz this ain't it....I already had these in the works, a few choice glitter/glam comps of the 1970's.....while I love the simple/goofy glam rock of the era, there are a few things wrong here.....while there is plenty of Bowie, the contexts are awful, breaking up side 2 of "Ziggy" or side 2 of "Diamond Dogs", well, it just ain't right.....and as a "tribute", rather than a silly goof, it assumes that we can put Bowie (as well as Roxy Music, they both transcended the scene by MILES) in the same general category with Slade and Suzi Quatro, it doesn't REALLY fit, it'll be ok for now,but once I construct a PROPER tribute fans of L'Bowie should be happy. (btw I know Brian has some good Bowie stuff on the way while I finish THIS one up......I just want to stress, while this is titled "RIP David Bowie", it is NOT "My David Bowie Tribute".......that will be soon, you will be happy with it.

But, what we got here? well, like the titles tell ya, first we get three discs of "The Golden Era of Glam
Rock 1971-76"......plenty of obvious tracks that we could argue for inclusion, lots of Bowie tracks, T Rex, Slade, Quatro, Sweet.......nothing rare imo, but if you were a "glam novice", perhaps you'd begin here...by the way, who the fuck decided the fucking Osmond Brothers "Crazy Horses" belongs here? I recall someone covered it on the great "Sucking in the Seventies" set, but HERE? OK, man....

The second disc of the set includes some CLASSIC tracks, such as Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes" and Roxy's "Do the Strand", "Suffragette City" from Bowie, all destroyed by the context in which they are programmed.....I hope most of you have this great music, on the original albums......hopefully VINYL! Another disc with PLENTY of Sweet, Slade, T Rex, and a couple lesser known acts, Chicory Tip and Blackwood Sue.....glitter/glam did not offer up a "deep" field of music, when tracks like Blackwood Sue's, for exmaple, emerge, they are a fine addition to these comps (a three disc, Nuggets-type anthology of unknown glam tracks of the era would be a Godsend.......perhaps I'll put it on my list........

More great Bowie tracks (heard in thte wrong context again, sigh, "Drive In Saturday" and "Rebel Rebel" are among his best, but they need to be heard in proper context, sorry..... Sweet and some of the other regulars of the series turn up, but this third disc contains the most varied example of stuff, such as Wizzard, Showaddywaddy, MUD, and even Sparks.

As a tribute to Bowie, this doesn't work......there are good tracks here, buried in between Gary Glitter and Suzy Quatro, this works more like a K-TEL set......had Bowie not left us, this would be just a fun batch of records, but things change.....all I can say is wait for my REAL Bowie tribute (tomorrow? we'll see!)

Next up, another 3-disc set, somewehat similar with a bit of overlap, "Glam Rock Anthology".....The
Dolls turn up here, they missed the other set somehow, classic Dolls tunes as well...the Runaways tear into "Saturday night Special", Bowie/Iggy Pop's duet on "China Girl" is memorable, we also get a wider spectrum of lesser known selections.....Hello, Robert Glass (covering "Life on Mars"), great tracks from Suede, Cherie Currie's post-Runaways take on "Cherry Bomb", Patrick Star, Geordie......I think the inclusion of some of theses acts, as well as better programming makes this the superior effort to the one above.

Last batch for tonight, from ME at least, is a mere TWO disc selection, along the same lines.... "Dynamite, The Best of Glam Rock".... many of the same representative acts show up here as on the other two sets, plus stuff from Angel, Medicine Head, Cozy Powell ("Dance With the Devil"......a fine drum piece that has (?) to do with glam rock........

Anyway, as I said I was already working on this when L'Bowie passed, so I decided to go ahead with it.....I'm torn when one of the greats passes, as Lemmy did the other day.....should I get up something to tribute them at ONCE? Or take my time and get a REALLY good one out there?

In the case of L'bowie, he was such a great that he deserves the best......I'll be working on his situation
the the enxt day or two, but PLEASE......if you have ANYTHING of interest (rare, live, demo, spoken word) NOW is the time to remember the great David Bowie and how much better he made our lives.....I know for a fact that mine is better, and I thank you David Bowie, for your greatness.

OK, as a tribute to the late great Bowie, this doesn't get it done for me........I'll find some more respectable material tomorrow to bring this thing home.......for now, though, at least relive the 1970's glam/glitter era, which was wonderful if you were there!

Some sleazy, trashy glitter-glam comps

How about some comps today, just for a LOT of fun? Four discs of lesser-known glitter-glam stompers that tend to be on the sleazy side, which of course is what makes this so much fun! Many of the bands will, I'm sure, be unknown to you, hardly the point......So often I make references to "Nuggets", if there were a "Nuggets" of sleazy glitter-glam, these four discs would be a hell of a starting point......just kick back on a Saturday and groove to this forgotten stuff, as always, don't take it too seriously, this is some FUN stuff.....get ready for a HAPPY MOTHERS DAY tomorrow, with a special Mother Day post (of course!)
