Hop Along

(Scott)- and yet another band that comes recommended to me/us by Jon S......Hop Along is another
one with which I am unfamiliar, but I do respect Jon's tastes in general, and it's pretty exciting that he calls their release from last year one of the best albums of the year.....sounds intriguing, it's a damn good thing I get to listen to music my entire eight hour shift each night or I wouldn't catch up with a third of this stuff. Thanks a million Jon S.

Hop Along is a Philadelphia band, like Waxahatchee. Painted Shut was one of my favorite albums last year, and this band is on the short list of those I most look forward to their next release. Like Car Seat Headrest, this started as a solo project, not becoming a band until a few years after. I'm just sending the band stuff but if anyone wants the earlier stuff, just say (really, for completists only).

Car Seat Headrest

Great submission from Jon S of a band with which I was, indeed, TOTALLY unfamiliar with..... I
took his advice and listened to "Teens of Denial", and find it totally fab..... so I did indeed look up their story on Wikipedia, quite interesting as well, they have a quite large volume of work, which was self-released on Bandcamp prior to their signing with Matador Records. Also checked a few of their YouTube videos...... really good band, quite good...... one of those that I can't really think of ANYTHING to compare them to right off the bat (maybe Pavement, but really only in attitude, not really in sound which is more rocking) and isn't that perhaps the ultimate compliment?

Thus far, I have listened to but the one album (plus the few videos), but based on these, I recommend this highly...... hope to check out (or at least carpet bomb) the rest of their stuff at work tonight, but Jon S hasn't steered us wrong yet, so go ahead and check out this very good (so far), unknown (to ME at least) band, MORE potential "year end" list material, I'm pretty sure that "Teens of Denial" will be on there somewhere!

Sad Songs from Jon S

(Scott).....I started all this, I guess, as my personal life is something of a disaster right now, BUT, everyone has been down at one time or another..... I've lately posted Nick Drake and (not complete yet) Elliott Smith, just seemed at the time that those two guys would understand the shit I'm currently going through.

Anyway, Jon S chimes in with his own collection of "Sad songs", from Julien Baker, of whom I have never heard until this minute..... Mourn

(Scott)-Now here's one I am REALLY looking forward to hearing (on tonight's "work I Pod rotation"..... Jon S has never steered me wrong, and the description of this band makes them sound as though they are right in my wheelhouse...... we'll see, but a band influenced by Sleater Kinney, Patti Smith, and Sonic Youth is going to be BAD???? I kinda doubt that. REALLY looking forward to listening to these tonight!

If you admire/appreciate Sleater-Kinney, you should give a listen to Mourn. Other influences are Sonic Youth and Patti Smith, at least to my ears. The band is made up of three girls (two are sisters) and a guy drummer, and they are still teenagers, I think. The new one (Ha, Ha, He.) just came out recently and the first one about a year ago. One of my favorite "newer" bands.
